The Founders group led by Parvez Hanif in the Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry (LCCI) has announced its four candidates for the upcoming elections of the Associate class seats of the chamber.

The candidates include Haji Muhammad Asif, Ahmad Mujtaba Babar, Sajid Mir and Haji Rizwan. They hail from different trades, said leader of the opposition in LCCI Tahir Manzoor Chaudhry at a press conference here Friday.

Haji Muhammad Asif, Muhammad Hashim, former LCCI President Dr Khalid Javed Chaudhry, former Senior Vice-President Parvez Anwar Sheikh and Tanvir Ahmad were also present on this occasion.

Regarding Chamber class candidates, Tahir stated that names of those candidates might be announced by Wednesday next.

However, he said they have reservations on legality of up gradation of 101 Associate class members to Chamber class, done by the ruling alliance of the LCCI. He said they would approach the High Court in that regard and after having some decision on it, would announce their candidates.

Haji Asif, Dr Khalid Javed Chaudhry and Tanvir Ahmad, in the opening statement, also condemned the ruling alliance of the LCCI for congratulating those 385 Associate class members who had been given right of vote by the Director Trade Organisation (DTO).

They said that it had exposed the dual policy of the ruling class, as they had fully opposed giving right of vote to those 385 members before the DTO.

They said that the Founders had approached the Lahore High Court for the right of those voters who directed the DTO to decide their fate by August 25.

They said Haji Asif represented the Founders while Chamber not only sent its Secretary but also an advocate to oppose the move.
